There is no age limit for NIMCET. The 2026 brochure does not set a minimum or maximum age. A 21-year-old in the final year of a BCA and a 34-year-old working professional with a B.Sc. are judged by the same rules.
Age does appear in the brochure, but only in one place: as a tie-breaker. If two candidates end up with exactly the same marks in total, Mathematics, Reasoning and Computer Awareness, the older candidate is ranked higher.
So age is not a barrier. The real question is whether your degree qualifies.
The degree rule in one sentence
You need either a UG degree of at least three years with Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects, or a B.E./B.Tech. from a recognised university or institution, along with the minimum aggregate (60% or 6.5 CGPA; 55% or 6.0 for SC, ST and PwD).
Degree by degree
| Degree | Eligible? | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| BCA (3 years) | Usually yes | That Mathematics or Statistics appears as a subject in your mark sheets |
| B.Sc. Mathematics / Statistics | Yes | Aggregate across all subjects |
| B.Sc. Computer Science / Physics | Usually yes | Most such programmes include Mathematics; confirm it is on your mark sheets |
| B.Sc. (no maths or statistics papers) | No | The Mathematics/Statistics condition is not met |
| B.E. / B.Tech. (any branch) | Yes | Listed separately, so the maths condition is satisfied by the degree type |
| BIT / B.Sc. IT | Usually yes | Mathematics or Statistics as a subject |
| B.Com / B.A. / BBA | Only with Maths or Stats papers | See our separate guide for these degrees |
| Diploma only | No | A UG degree of at least three years is required |
| Two-year degree | No | Minimum duration is three years |
"Usually yes" means the programme normally includes Mathematics or Statistics, but syllabi differ between universities. The deciding evidence is your own mark sheet.
What counts as "Mathematics or Statistics as a subject"?
The brochure does not define it further, so a sensible reading is: a paper that is clearly a Mathematics or Statistics paper appears in your degree mark sheets. Papers such as "Discrete Mathematics", "Mathematics for Computing" or "Probability and Statistics" are the usual examples in BCA programmes.
If your only maths-related paper has a vague title, keep the syllabus document from your university. It helps if your eligibility is questioned at verification.
Open and distance degrees
Degrees from open universities are accepted if the programme is approved by the UGC/AICTE and the Distance Education Council, according to the 2026 brochure. The same Mathematics/Statistics and aggregate rules apply.
The aggregate is calculated over everything
People with mixed results often get caught here. The percentage is computed over all subjects in all years, including languages and optional or additional subjects. You cannot drop your weakest paper.
Who this matters most for
- Working professionals: your age is irrelevant, but you will need your original degree mark sheets, so dig them out early.
- Students who changed streams: a B.Sc. in a non-mathematical subject does not qualify, even if you took Mathematics in Class 12. The rule looks at the degree.
- Students without Mathematics in Class 12: the rule is about your UG degree, not Class 12. We cover this case in detail in can non-maths 12th students apply for NIMCET.
For the full eligibility rules including category relaxations, see the NIMCET 2026 brochure guide. If you are still in your final year, read the rules for final-year candidates.
