Most NIMCET candidates are BCA students in their final year, preparing alongside classes, assignments, practicals and sometimes an internship. That is a lot to juggle, but it is very doable with a routine that respects your semester calendar instead of fighting it.
This page is a practical guide, not a personal story. It focuses on structure you can copy and adapt.
What BCA gives you, and what it does not
| BCA helps with | BCA usually does not cover enough |
|---|---|
| Computer Awareness: number systems, Boolean algebra, hardware, software | Calculus at NIMCET level |
| Logical thinking from programming | Conic sections and pair of straight lines |
| Some discrete mathematics (sets, logic) | Trigonometry beyond basics |
| Familiarity with computer-based tests | Probability and statistics depth |
So the plan is simple in principle: keep Computer Awareness ticking over, and put most of your NIMCET time into Mathematics.
A sample weekly timetable (term time)
| Day | Morning | Evening |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | — | 2 h Maths (new topic) |
| Tuesday | 30 min English | 1.5 h Maths practice, 30 min Reasoning |
| Wednesday | — | 2 h Maths (new topic) |
| Thursday | 30 min English | 1.5 h Maths practice, 30 min Reasoning |
| Friday | — | 1 h Computer Awareness, 1 h Reasoning |
| Saturday | 3 h Maths practice set | 1 h Reasoning puzzles |
| Sunday | Sectional test (real timing) | Review mistakes, plan next week |
That is roughly 15–17 hours a week, which many students can sustain alongside classes.
Adjusting around the BCA calendar
During semester exams
Drop to a maintenance routine: 30–45 minutes a day of revision on topics you have already learned, and no new chapters. Protect your degree marks; NIMCET requires a 60% aggregate (or 6.5 CGPA), and a weak final semester can cost you eligibility.
During an internship
Mornings or late evenings, whichever is free. Keep weekend sessions longer, and use your commute for English vocabulary.
In the semester break
This is your best time for big Mathematics chapters such as calculus or coordinate geometry. Aim for four to six hours a day.
The final-year calendar to watch
| Period | BCA | NIMCET |
|---|---|---|
| Nov–Dec | Odd-semester exams | Maintenance revision |
| Jan–Feb | New semester | Core maths chapters |
| March | Classes continue | Apply for NIMCET (registration opened on 3 March in 2026); get Annexure V signed |
| April–May | Even-semester exams and projects | Full mocks; careful time management |
| June | — | NIMCET (6 June in 2026) |
Your final-semester exams may overlap with the last weeks before NIMCET. Plan your mock schedule around them early.
Using BCA subjects to your advantage
- Computer Awareness: revise your Digital Electronics or Computer Organisation notes for number systems, two's complement and Boolean algebra.
- Discrete Mathematics: sets, relations and logic carry over directly.
- Statistics paper: if your BCA had one, it is a head start on NIMCET probability and statistics.
Check your eligibility early
Make sure Mathematics or Statistics appears in your BCA mark sheets, and that your aggregate will clear 60% or 6.5 CGPA. As a final-year student, you will apply with Annexure V. The final-year eligibility guide covers the details.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I prepare for NIMCET while studying BCA?
Yes. Most candidates do. A steady 15–17 hours a week, adjusted around semester exams, is workable.
Which NIMCET section is easiest for BCA students?
Usually Computer Awareness, because BCA covers much of it.
What should BCA students focus on for NIMCET?
Mathematics, which carries 600 of the 1,000 marks and is often the weakest area for BCA students.
Can final-year BCA students apply for NIMCET?
Yes, with the Annexure V certificate, provided they meet the eligibility conditions by the deadline.
