NIMCET does not publish a "cutoff mark". The cutoff that matters is the closing rank: the rank of the last candidate allotted a seat at an institute, in a given category and round. The official opening and closing ranks (OR-CR) are published on the NIMCET portal after each round.
Below are the 2026 Round 1 ranks, as reported from the official first-round allotment records. For the final and complete figures, including later rounds, check the OR-CR section on the official portal.

How to read these numbers
- Opening rank (OR): the best rank allotted a seat there in that round.
- Closing rank (CR): the last rank allotted a seat there in that round.
- A low opening rank with a much higher closing rank (for example NIT Kurukshetra, 11–244) usually means some top-ranked candidates chose it while others ranked above the closing rank went elsewhere.
Why Round 1 is not the final word
After Round 1, candidates float to better options, freeze or withdraw. Seats free up and are re-allotted in Rounds 2 and 3 and the special round, so closing ranks often move further down in later rounds. A rank just outside a Round 1 closing rank can still be allotted later.
Using last year's ranks for 2027
- Use ranges, not single numbers. Exam difficulty, applicant numbers and seat changes all shift ranks from year to year.
- Compare your category. An OBC-NCL candidate should look at the OBC-NCL column, but also check OPEN in case their rank is high enough.
- Check seat changes. If an institute adds or cuts seats in the 2027 matrix, its closing rank will move.
For what drives these numbers year to year, see how cutoffs are formed in our companion article, and for estimating what rank your marks might give, see NIMCET marks vs rank analysis.
