NIMCET published a revised syllabus with effect from 2026, alongside the 2026 information brochure. The structure of the exam did not change (still 50 Mathematics, 40 Reasoning, 20 Computer Awareness and 10 English questions), but the topic lists did. If you prepared from an older syllabus or an older book, a few chapters now deserve less of your time and a few new reasoning areas deserve more.

Mathematics (50 questions)

UnitTopics in the revised syllabus
Set theory and logicSet operations, symmetric difference, Cartesian product, cardinality, functions and relations, Venn diagrams, truth tables, connectives, tautologies and contradictions
Probability and statisticsBasic probability, averages, dependent and independent events, Bayes' theorem, mean, median, mode, mean deviation, standard deviation, variance, moments, frequency distributions
AlgebraQuadratic equations, roots and coefficients, symmetric functions of roots, indices, logarithms, exponentials, AP, GP, HP, sums of powers of natural numbers, matrices and determinants, simultaneous linear equations, permutations and combinations, binomial theorem
Coordinate geometry (2D)Distance and section formulae, lines, pair of straight lines, circles, parabola, ellipse, hyperbola, tangents and normals
CalculusLimits (including one-sided and at infinity), continuity, intermediate value theorem, differentiation and applications, Rolle's and mean value theorems, integration by parts, substitution and partial fractions, odd/even/periodic functions, definite integrals, area
TrigonometryFunctions and identities, inverse trigonometric functions (principal values), properties and solutions of triangles, heights and distances, trigonometric equations

What is not in the list

  • Vectors are not mentioned anywhere in the revised Mathematics syllabus.
  • 3D geometry is not mentioned; coordinate geometry is limited to two dimensions.

We covered the vectors change when the syllabus was first released in NIMCET revised syllabus: vectors removed. Our older vector articles remain on the site for students taking other exams, but NIMCET 2026 onwards aspirants can safely deprioritise them.

Analytical Ability and Logical Reasoning (40 questions)

The revised syllabus names two groups of topics.

Classic reasoning: blood relations, coding-decoding, direction tests, seating arrangement, puzzles, input-output, syllogisms, alphanumeric series, mirror images, and statements with conclusions or arguments. These are grouped under verbal, non-verbal, deductive and inductive reasoning.

Newly spelled out: problem solving, critical thinking, data interpretation, numerical reasoning, data sufficiency and data visualisation.

The practical change is the second group. Data sufficiency and data-visualisation questions (reading charts and graphs) reward a different kind of practice from puzzles, so add them to your mocks.

Computer Awareness (20 questions)

UnitTopics
Computer basicsOrganisation of a computer, CPU, instruction structure, I/O devices, memory, backup devices
Data representationCharacters, integers and fractions; binary and hexadecimal; binary arithmetic; two's complement; floating point; Boolean algebra
HardwareInput, output and storage devices; RAM, ROM, cache
SoftwareOperating systems, system software (utilities, device drivers), application software
Internet and emailWeb browsing, email management, online security awareness

Hardware, software and internet safety are now named explicitly, which widens the section beyond number systems and Boolean algebra.

General English (10 questions)

Comprehension, vocabulary and phrases, grammatical patterns and word formation, technical writing, and accuracy and fluency in English for technical education.

How to adjust your preparation

  1. Drop vectors and 3D geometry from your NIMCET plan unless the next brochure brings them back.
  2. Keep calculus, algebra and coordinate geometry central. They remain the core of the 600-mark Mathematics section.
  3. Add data sufficiency and data visualisation to your Reasoning practice every week.
  4. Read up on hardware, software and internet basics for Computer Awareness, not just binary arithmetic.
  5. Check the 2027 syllabus when it is published; the revision applied "with effect from 2026", and future changes are possible.

For a chapter-by-chapter path through the maths, start from the Coordinate Geometry chapter and Calculus chapter pages.

Frequently Asked Questions
