There is no official NIMCET book list. What follows are books that are widely used by MCA entrance aspirants for each section, with a note on what each one does well. You do not need all of them. The usual advice, and a sensible one, is one main book per section, finished properly, plus past papers and mocks.
Mathematics (600 marks)
| Book | Good for |
|---|---|
| NCERT Mathematics, Class 11 and 12 | Building or rebuilding the base; clear explanations |
| R.D. Sharma, Mathematics for Class 11 and 12 | Large volume of graded practice questions |
| Arihant Skills in Mathematics series by Amit M. Agarwal (Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Trigonometry, Algebra) | Deeper, competitive-level problems chapter by chapter |
How to use them: NCERT first for concepts, then one practice book. The Amit M. Agarwal volumes go well beyond NIMCET in places; use them selectively for calculus and coordinate geometry.
Watch out: many maths books include vectors and 3D geometry, which are not in the NIMCET revised syllabus from 2026. Skip those chapters for NIMCET.
Analytical Ability and Logical Reasoning (240 marks)
| Book | Good for |
|---|---|
| A Modern Approach to Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning by R.S. Aggarwal | Wide coverage of classic reasoning types |
| Analytical Reasoning by M.K. Pandey | Puzzles and arrangement-type problems |
| A New Approach to Reasoning by B.S. Sijwali (Arihant) | Mixed practice at competitive level |
The revised syllabus also names data sufficiency and data visualisation; make sure your practice includes those question types, which older books may cover lightly.
Computer Awareness (120 marks)
| Book | Good for |
|---|---|
| Computer Fundamentals by Pradeep K. Sinha | Clear explanation of basics, data representation, hardware and software |
| An objective computer-awareness book for competitive exams | Quick MCQ practice |
Number systems, two's complement, floating point and Boolean algebra need practice, not just reading.
General English (40 marks)
| Book | Good for |
|---|---|
| High School English Grammar and Composition by Wren and Martin | Grammar rules |
| Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis | Vocabulary through word roots |
| Objective General English by S.P. Bakshi | Competitive-exam style practice |
Beyond books
- Past papers: in 2025 the question paper was released with the answer key in candidates' logins on the official portal.
- Mock tests with real timings: books cannot train you for the 70-30-20 minute slots.
- Topic pages on this site: every maths chapter in the revised syllabus has a study page, listed in the syllabus checklist.
A minimal book set
If you want the smallest set that covers everything:
- NCERT Class 11 and 12 Mathematics
- One practice book for Mathematics
- One reasoning book
- Computer Fundamentals by P.K. Sinha
- One English grammar book
Frequently Asked Questions
Which is the best book for NIMCET Mathematics?
There is no single best book. NCERT for concepts plus one practice book (such as R.D. Sharma) works for most students, with Amit M. Agarwal's volumes for extra depth.
Is NCERT enough for NIMCET?
It builds the base, but you will need extra practice at competitive level, especially in calculus and coordinate geometry.
Which book is good for NIMCET Computer Awareness?
Computer Fundamentals by Pradeep K. Sinha is commonly used, along with MCQ practice.
Should I study vectors from my maths books?
Not for NIMCET. Vectors are not in the revised syllabus from 2026.
